In a recent official circular, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reached out to principals across the country to celebrate the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) on October 31st.

The day marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, hailed as the architect of India’s national integration. CBSE urges schools to partake in various activities to reinforce the ideals of unity, integrity, and security of the nation.

‘Run for Unity’: A Symbolic Marathon

One of the circular’s key highlights is the organization of ‘Run for Unity.’ Schools are encouraged to conduct runs for varying distances based on what is feasible.

Ideally scheduled between 7 to 8 am on October 31st, 2023, these runs can either precede or follow the morning assemblies. Principals, senior faculty members, or students are encouraged to speak on Sardar Patel’s role in uniting India at these events.

In a novel outreach, the CBSE also encourages the participation of families, local community members, and notably, children from marginalized sections, including those with disabilities.
