Young Scientist Programme “YUVIKA”

ISRO YUVIKA 2022 has been announced for schools students in India, and those selected will get to stay at ISRO centers for two weeks

ISRO YUVIKA 2022, or the Young Scientist Program, has been announced and online applications are being accepted from school students. The YUva VIgyani KAryakram , YUVIKA, aims at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to young school students with a preference to rural areas. The program, ISRO says, is aimed at creating awareness about the emerging trends in science and technology amongst youngsters and is also expected to encourage more students to pursue in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) based research or career.


ISRO organized Young Scientist Programme “YUVIKA” for students

A total of 150 students studying in Class 9 as on 1 March 2022 will be selected for ISRO YUVIKA, and a special weightage will be given to students studying in schools located in panchayat area. Also, minimum participation will be ensured from each state and union territory. Selected students will get to stay at any one of the following centres namely:

  • Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram.
  • UR Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru.
  • Space Application Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad.
  • National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad.
  • North-East Space Application Centre (NE-SAC), Shillong.

ISRO also says that students will be taken to visit the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota as well towards the end of the program.

How Will Students Be Selected for ISRO YUVIKA 2022?

Students will be selected for the program based on the following parameters:

  • Marks obtained in the class 8 examination.
  • Participation in science fairs over the past three years.
  • Prizes obtained in Olympiad or science competitions.
  • Winners of sports competitions. 
  • Membership in Scout and guides, NCC or NSS in the last three years.
  • Performance in an online quiz that will be conducted by ISRO.

How to Register for ISRO YUVIKA 2022?

Interested and eligible students will have to complete the following four steps before 10 April 2022:

  • Complete an email registration.
  • Read the quiz instructions, and appear for the online quiz within 48 hours of e-mail registration for ISRO YUVIKA 2022.
  • After 60 minutes of completion of the quiz, students will have to login to the YUVIKA platform and fill all the details. Students will then have to submit the online application form and download the submitted form.
  • Signed copies of all the required certificates will have to be uploaded before the last date.

ISRO is organizing a special programme for school children called “YUva VIgyani KAryakram” (YUVIKA) or “Young Scientist Programme”.

Expenditure towards the travel of students, course material, lodging and boarding during the entire YUVIKA program will be borne by ISRO. Those who wish to apply for the program are advised to go through the official website for more information.
